Sometimes all you need is a hearty breakfast to charge through your day like the pro-New Yorker you are! And if you’re hungover or just tired from the night before, nothing works like a shot of espresso (or three!), a stack of fluffy pancakes smothered in syrup and a mighty breakfast sandwich fix. Your body needs the kind of energy that only a.m fuelling can provide and I’m not just talking about a glass of milk or A PB&J sandwich.
Imagine going to shop at The Mall of America for hours on an empty stomach! Maybe that’s how your body feels when you skip breakfast. Don’t do that, do these instead!
Here’s a list of some of the best breakfast restaurants in the city:
1. Barney Greengrass
541 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10024, USA
Scoop up your best mate or most tolerable colleague for breakfast at Barney Greengrass for it’s a shared affair. The most sought-after dish has to be the smoked fish platters consisting of eggs, smoked sturgeon or Nova Scotia salmon and other accompaniments. The prices are high but perfect for the portions.
49 Canal St, New York, NY 10002, USA
You can only expect greatness when the café is inspired by the Southern California life. You can also expect a variety of cuisines, like Japanese, Mediterranean and South American, making guest appearances on the menu. The dishes to try are the love toast made with tahini, raspberry, honey and mint and the Huevo Kathmandu with spiced chickpeas.
3. Tom’s Restaurant
2880 Broadway, New York, NY 10025, USA
Tom’s is where you go when you want to feel like you’re home. The lemon-ricotta pancakes dripping in varieties of different kinds of butter are still the best item on the menu. The place itself is stuck in time, and a good one, and during the weekends there’s a queue of hungry regulars from kids to their grandparents all munching on cookies and oranges proffered by the excellent staff of Tom’s (surrounding the whole block!).
