Ice-cream sundaes are Sundays in a bowl. Nobody knows where they were first made, but aren’t we all glad they exist? Multiple scoops of ice cream, drizzled with your choice of sauces and topped with a variety of knickknacks like cereal or peanut and finally completed with whipped cream and a single cherry.
Although you can always enjoy an ice-cream sundae most at the beach by taking the NYC beach bus but there are some places in the city that are excelling at the art of sundae making.
Here’s a list of some of the best ice-cream sundaes you can find in New York City:
1. La Newyorkina
Fany Gerson’s creativity and zest to surprise make her sundaes amazing and worth going back for. Her ice-cream shop, La Newyorkina, was inspired by her childhood spent in Mexico City, where she found unusual flavour combinations and brought them to New York. The sundae to try is the Chilanga Banda. Tres-leches ice cream, candied mango with chilly powder and passion-fruit flavoured caramel.
2. Loring Place
Chef Dan Kluger of ABC Kitchen brings a heavenly sundae to his menu at Loring Place. The sundae to try has to be The Blizzard. Scoops of housemade vanilla ice cream, pretzel pieces, hazelnut toffee, cookie fudge and lemony twist make this sundae hard to miss. There are a lot of subtle citrus notes among gluttonous deliciousness.
3. Uncle Boons
Uncle Boons deliver the classic sweet and salty combination with Il Laboratorio del Gelato, a coconut ice cream with coconut cookies, coconut shards, whipped cream and a devilishly good addition of candied peanuts. You will not be able to put your spoon down as you dive into this amazing yet simple flavour combination. The caramel coating on the peanut adds a heavenly twist.
