New York gets ranked amongst one of the most literary cities in the world. And
it is true because the city has so much to offer in terms of where people can go
and get their books from.
So if you are someone who likes to read in their free time, or if you are someone
who would like to start reading as you might be snowed in when Snow from
nor’easter arrives in Philadelphia, fret not. Here is a list of some of the best
independent bookstores in NYC for you to check out.
1. Astoria Bookshop
Astoria bookshop located in Astoria is one of the rare sights in Queens as there
aren’t many independent bookshops left in this part of town. Although it might
look a bit small, this bookstore has one of the finest selection of fiction and
nonfiction titles alike.
2. Strand Bookstore
When a bookstore boasts that it has more than 18 miles worth of books, you
have to take their word for it that they are good. As one of the oldest surviving
bookstores in the city, Strand offers its readers unmatched selection and over 2
million books which are on discount all year round.
Affectionately called BSTOX, Bluestocking is one of the few feminist fair trade
bookstores in the city where you can find books specializing in race, gender,
equality and everything in between. It is volunteer run and there is cafe attached
to the bookstore, which of course is vegan.
