The plant-based diet is growing vastly among the people of New York. With animal rights in tow, more and more people are turning to vegetarianism and more vegetarians are turning to veganism. It’s a healthy cycle.
Veganism abstains from any direct or by-products of animals. That includes dairy, eggs, meat and sometimes even honey!
However, the talented chefs of the city are proving that you don’t need these to still cook a delicious meal full of protein and all the necessary nutrients!
My vegan friends from Philadelphia often take the Megabus: Philly to NYC and get their fill of mock meats.
Here’s a list of some of the best vegan-friendly restaurants in the city:
1. Superiority Burger
All the ingredients are sourced from Greenmarket by chef Brooke Headly but the meals at this vegetarian/vegan-centric fast food joint are reasonably priced. The veggie burger is a hit among the regulars but the fake cheesesteak and hippie tofu wrap will give any other restaurant a run for its money.
abc V is Georges Vongerichten’s new addition to the already famous ABC restaurants. The menu is all vegetarian but you sure an make almost every dish on it is vegan. The dishes showcase the season’s best like roasted carrots splashed with seed-butter, mushrooms, yuba and even white truffle.
3. JaJaJa Plantas Mexicana
This all vegan restaurant serves a mean lime-coconut-mezcal cocktail. Enjoy meats without any meat like fake chorizo, meat tacos, queso and mock fish! Yes, still all-vegan! The kale pancakes bring sceptics around to JaJaJa Plantas. Why not give it a go?
