Well 2018 and the excitement is not completely about just royal weddings but also about wonderful Sporting events. Yes! I am speaking about one of the most Premier and most awaited sporting events of the year and perhaps something which does not come every year. That definitely makes 2018 very special. Without keeping you in for the substance, I am speaking about the 2018 Winter Olympics to be held in South Korea. Olympics traditionally are one of my most favorite sports events. I love the fact that we get to see the extremes of human performance and diverse city of people across the globe. I also love the coverage and the beginning and closing ceremonies. Of course, the medal tally is definitely one of the most exciting ones to watch out for. Winter Olympics are definitely quite different. So a quick recap on salient facts of the Winter Olympics:
Ski-loving North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced he would send a delegation to the Winter Olympics, held just 60km over the border in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
The IOC has selected Pyeongchang, South Korea, to host the 2018 Winter Olympics and Beijing, China, to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. As of 2017 no city in the southern hemisphere had applied to host the cold-weather-dependent Winter Olympics, which are held in February at the height of the southern hemisphere summer.
As of 2017 twelve countries – Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States – have sent athletes to every Winter Olympic Games. Six of those – Austria, Canada, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the United States – have earned medals at every Winter Olympic Games, and only one – the United States – has earned gold at each Games.
