Exotic Food in NYC

Some of us like a specific cut of meat and lucky for us, New York City serves every kind. Yes, every kind. Some restauranteurs do not let any part of the animal go to waste. Offal is a kind word for those parts that would normally make one feel giddy about even seeing it on the plate.

Then there are dishes that would normally not be found everywhere, like the best and most expensive caviar in the world or gold leafed desserts.

If you’re curious, cashing out or both, here’s a list of exotic foods worth trying in New York:

1. Balut

111 1st Avenue, New York, NY 10003, USA

Balut is a Filipino dish that consists of a fertilised duck foetus that is hard boiled. People who have tried it say that its definitely a strange experience and sometimes the foetus has feathers attached to it. Thousands of people in the Philippines indigenously enjoy balut every day and a restauranteur from the same brought the trend to the States. You can try this controversial dish at Mahalika.

2. Pig Ears

145 E 39th St, New York, NY 10016, USA

Adventure is calling you to Salvation Taco! Their menu is amazing consisting of a tapas, tacos and a brilliant ceviche. But the pig ears are to look out for. Dressed in a lime dressing some are puffy, soft and hollow while some are hard, chewy and stick to your teeth like candies! They’re said to be very delicious and might just make you a fan.

3. Chinko (Bull Penis)

25 St Marks Pl, New York, NY 10003, USA

Yes, you read this right! Bull privates are a delicacy at Kenka. Its definitely a dish that’s been ordered but some do not have the heart to try it since its been precooked, boiled and served with their housemade sauces. Apart from this whack dish, there’s also turkey testicles and frog legs if you’re feeling less adventurous. But surely, this is a story to tell once you finish it.

Even if you’re visiting DC, you need to try this! Just take the DC to New York bus and you can try any of these foods!
