Drinking on a rooftop bar is something of a sport for the New Yorkers. Well, there sure is something special about being far above the city’s commotion. This is especially true during the summers. When the concrete begins exuding heat waves, being on a rooftop and relishing a single malt, or any drink of your choice, for that matter, becomes a necessity.
In any case, you’re going to suffer the obloquies of a limitless crowd and long queues and overpriced liquor, so why not do it some of the city’s finest places?
So what follows now is a list of the finest rooftop bars in New York City.
Roof at Park South
Unlike some of the city’s sought-after cocktail haunts that can be found behind unmarked alleys on unnamed streets, the Roof at South Park Hotel offers top-notch drinks and a pool-soaked terrain along with mesmerizing skyline views.
Located atop the William Vale Hotel, Westlight is a flashy cocktail bar with panoramic skyline views. The skyline views from its terrace and glassed in-lounge are its biggest draw, along with the great selection of wine, beer and cocktails.
Top of the Strand
Top of the Strand is an intimate rooftop bar at the Strand Hotel which offers dramatic views of the Empire State Building. Named one of the top 10 rooftop bars in the world by Premier Traveler Magazine, the bar, with its retractable glass roof, looks straight out at Manhattan. One of my personal favourites, this bar had me coming back again and again for its expertly crafted cocktails and live jazz music. During my early days working around the city, I’d often hop on a bus from Philly to NYC only to have a few drinks at this bar.
